분명한 목표를 이루기 위해 매일 같은 일을 반복할 수 있는 사람이 천재라고 말하는 과학자가 있더군요. 과연 그런 사람들의 수고가 오늘 우리 삶의 편리함을 가져다 주었습니다.
그래서 저도 매일 같은 일을 반복합니다.
영혼을 위해서 말씀과 찬양과 기도를, 몸을 위해 음식과 운동과 휴식을, 마음을 위해서 독서와 명상과 대화를 합니다. 내 영혼이 하나님과 더욱 깊이 연합하는 것은 내 영혼의 목표입니다. 몸이 건강하게 유지되어 행복한 삶을 영위하고 노화를 지연시키는 것은 내 몸의 목표입니다. 정서적으로 안정되고 성경과 세상에 대한 지식을 넓히며, 사람들과 발전적 관계를 만들어 나가는 것은 내 마음의 목표입니다.
결국 오늘의 나는, 어제의 내가 반복한 일들의 결과입니다. 또 내일의 나는, 오늘 내가 반복하는 일들의 결과입니다. 이렇게 생각하면 기억조차 하지 못할 것들에 시간을 보내는 것은 있을 수 없습니다.
크고 아름다운 나무를 볼 때마다 늘 생각합니다. 저 나무도 예전엔 작은 씨앗 하나, 가느다란 줄기 하나에 불과했을텐데 이젠 저렇게 자랐구나!

I once heard a scientist say that a genius is someone who can repeat the same thing every day in order to achieve a clear goal. The persistent efforts of people like that have brought us much of the convenience we enjoy in life today.
So I, too, repeat the same things every day. For my soul, I spend time in the Word, praise, and prayer. For my body, I pay attention to food, exercise, and rest. For my mind, I make time for reading, reflection, and meaningful conversation.
The goal of my soul is to grow into a deeper union with God. The goal of my body is to remain healthy, enjoy a happy and active life, and slow the effects of aging. The goal of my mind is to become emotionally stable, deepen my understanding of both the Bible and the world, and build healthy, growing relationships with others.
In the end, who I am today is the result of what I repeatedly did yesterday. And who I will be tomorrow will be the result of what I repeatedly do today. When I think about life this way, I realize that I cannot afford to spend my time on things that I will not even remember later.
Whenever I see a large and beautiful tree, I often think, “That tree, too, was once nothing more than a tiny seed and a slender stem. And look how much it has grown!”
I pray that the lives, families, and businesses of every member of our church will grow and flourish in the same way.
