쉽게 얻은 것은 쉽게 잃어버립니다. What is easily gained is easily lost.

쉽게 얻은 것은 쉽게 잃어버립니다. 그걸 몰랐을 때는 무조건 좀 더 많이, 지금 당장 획득하기만 하면 좋은 것으로 알았습니다. 시간이 흐르고 보니 제대로 값을 치루지 않은 것들은 대부분 헛되게 사라지더군요. 그래서 이제는 1. 헛된 것들을 바라지 않고, 2. 내게 주어진 시간과 에너지를 가치 있는 것에 쏟으며, 3. 그렇게 해서 얻은 것들을 소중하게 다루는 습관이 생겼습니다. 이건 물건이든 사람이든 마찬가지입니다. 의미 없이 알게 된 수많은 사람들이 내게 유익이 되지 않습니다. 하나님께서 내 주변에 보내주신 적은 수의 그 한 사람 한 사람이 소중합니다. 그러려면 불필요한 관계, 혹은 의미 없는 관계를 유지해 가려는 헛된 노력들은 버려야 합니다. 지금 내게 주신 사람들에게 집중합니다. 이런 생각이 어딜 가든 복음을 씨를 뿌리는 삶의 모습과 상충되지 않습니다. 밭이 어떻든 우리는 씨를 뿌려야 합니다. 내가 그 열매를 보지 못할 경우에도 씨를 뿌려야 합니다. 때가 되면 주께서 추수할 일꾼들을 보내실 겁니다. What is easily gained is easily lost. When I didn’t know this, I thought it was always best to just get more—right now, as much as possible. But as time passed, I realized that the things I didn’t pay the proper price for usually disappeared in vain. So now, I’ve developed the habit of: 1. Not desiring what is meaningless, 2. Pouring my time and energy into things that are truly valuable, 3. Treasuring the things I’ve gained through that process. This applies to both possessions and people. The many people I’ve come to know without purpose have not been of any benefit to me. The few individuals God has sent into my life—each one of them—is precious. To cherish them, I must let go of vain efforts to maintain unnecessary or meaningless relationships. I choose instead to focus on the people God has placed in my life right now. This mindset doesn’t conflict with a life that sows the seeds of the Gospel wherever I go. No matter the condition of the soil, we are called to sow. Even if I don’t get to see the fruit myself, I must sow. In due time, the Lord will send workers for the harvest.
