Ask God for help.

Angela Duckworth, a well-known psychologist, once wrote about one quality that successful people have in common. What do you think it was? The answer was unexpected: they know how to ask for help. Rather than struggling to do what they cannot do well, they ask for help from those who can—and, in the process, build meaningful relationships with them.

I have met many people who refuse help even when they are in desperate situations. I have also met people who refuse help because they have reached the top of their profession. Their circumstances are different, but the reason is the same: pride.

Pride is like a double-edged sword. It can be healthy when it serves as a boundary that protects our dignity. But pride has no place in our relationship with God.

The problem of our sin and the matter of our salvation can be resolved only by God’s unconditional grace. When we come to ask for that grace, our pride must not stand in the way. If we refuse to seek His grace, the result is spiritual death. If we seek that grace somewhere else, it becomes idolatry—and the result is the same.

Ask God for help. Come to Him again and again.
